This post is going to go over how you can make your picture look like it was taken on a nice day!
One of the easiest ways you can fake this is by making sure the sky looks nice and blue instead of a shade of grey.
Recently I took my son to go see Thomas the train. The morning sky was grey and made the pictures look kind of dreary.
Here’s an example:
One of the things that can be done to this image is to change the sky a bit more blue! To do this we will need to click on Select – Color Range…
A new Color Range Window will open. Using the eye dropper first click on the sky. Then using the “Fuzziness” slider try to get the sky mostly white. By doing this we will get a really good selection!
On this image some of Thomas’s face and the road will also be selected. Holding down the “ALT” key and using the quick selection tool you can erase the selections that don’t involve the sky.
Make a new layer and call it “blue sky”
Because you have a selection already just paint a “light sky blue” color into the image. You might want to even sample from another image where there is blue sky.
You will most likely have an image where the blue sky will look kind of fake. Using the opacity layer control dial back the sky a bit.
Images shot on grey dreary days tend to need a bit of color saturation. Bump it up by 10-12 points.
Here’s the before and after
